"No More Cataract Blindness" Campaign ❤

The fight against cataract as the leading cause of blindness in Malaysia begins a month ago as VISTA Eye Specialist (VISTA), together with supporting partners and participating universities launched the NO MORE CATARACT BLINDNESS campaign in conjunction with World Sight Day 2014. The launch of the campaign was held at Dialogue In The Dark at The School, Jaya One.

I was there about 1 and a half hour early and decided to hang around at Jaya One. I wasn't too sure where is Dialogue in The Dark located until a guy who worked in one of the shops in The School showed me the way. The concept of Dialogue In The Dark is simple. Visitors are led by blind guides in groups through specially constructed dark rooms in which scent, sound, wind, temperature and texture convey the characteristics of daily environments – for example a park, a city, a boat cruise or a bar. 

Each of the media who attended that day would be given the opportunity to experience the total darkness for 15 minutes to half an hour. This experience serves as a reminder to never take sight for granted and to ensure regular eye screening. 
Kicking-off the initiative at Dialogue in the Dark (DID) Malaysia, were Mr Lim Boon Siong, Founder and CEO of VISTA; Dr Aloysius Low, Chief Consultant Ophthalmologist, Cataract and Refractive Surgeon; as well as campaign partners, Mr Stevens Chan Kum Fai, CEO and Founder of Dialogue in the Dark Malaysia (DID); and Miss Patricia, Managing Director of Pat-Lin Communications.

Student representatives from the three participating universities – HELP University, Management & Science University (MSU) and SEGi University were also present to support the fight against cataract; a demonstration of VISTA's role in mentoring young Malaysians and driving civic consciousness on cataract and its impact on people's lives.

The 'No More Cataract Blindness' campaign is an important and necessary initiative in eliminating cataract as the #1 cause of blindness in Malaysia in line with the Vision 2020 Global Declaration plan and VISTA's aim to bring people's vision from 'blur to clear'. Through the campaign, it strives to not only increase public awareness on cataract and its treatment, but also encourage active participation from various parties in the fight against cataract, particularly from young Malaysians. 

Cataract is responsible for 39% of all cases of visual impairments in Malaysia, making it the leading cause of blindness among Malaysians. The fact that people are still experiencing loss of vision because of cataract is totally unnecessary, especially considering that cataract blindness is preventable. This shows a great need for increased awareness of what it is, how it can impact people's lives and the treatment options available. People need to know the importance of regular eye screenings and early cataract surgery to minimise complication and ensure healthy vision. Nowadays modern cataract surgery is one of the safest procedures and thanks to the many technological advancements and innovations over the years.

As part of VISTA's Corporate Responsibility (CR) programme, the No More Cataract Blindness campaign will offer public screenings for cataract and other eye diseases at its family carnival at various VISTA Eye Specialist Centres. During this time, a mini DID will be set-up at its Centre at The Curve where patrons can undergo the experiential session with blind guides.

The launch also highlighted  the screening of 'Are You Blind', a short film produced by Jason Lim Productions and supported by VISTA. It powerfully reflects the various challenges a visually impaired person can face in Malaysia, emphasising the need for increased empathy and public awareness of the condition.

The No More Cataract Blindness student Community Project will run over the course of five months, culminating in an Award Ceremony to be held in January 2015. It's my pleasure to attend this meaningful event on that day. I experienced the total darkness together with Innanie and I began to appreciate my eye sight after experiencing darkness for half an hour. Never take your eye sight for granted and remember to go for regular eye screening.

Guinness Amplify Finale Show feat. Magic! ❤

Guinness Amplify Finale Show was a huge success with thousands of Malaysian music fans came together to watch performance from Dash, OJ Law and the rising stars MAGIC! at KL Life last week. Li Chuen and I were lucky enough to find a parking spot in the building on that night. *phew* I knew that it's always hard to find a parking spot in KL Life Centre building whenever concerts or parties were held in that place.

Upon registration, we were given two tokens each to redeem our free Guinness Stout drinks. Since it was still early, Li Chuen, Yumi and I had dinner at Serai beforehand. As usual, the girls would take the opportunity to selfie and I am glad to meet all my babes after so long. *wide grin*

Guinness Amplify has been touring Peninsular Malaysia for the past 7 weeks, bringing together some of the best artists Malaysia has to offer in a showcase of the passion, talent, and dedication that our local musicians possess. Each weekend has seen a free-admission gig at various venues in Klang Valley, Johor, and Penang, before returning to KL for the Finale Show.

The first performance of the night was kicked off with local electropop heroes Dash taking the stage with a high-energy set which delighted their fan ready to rock out to a wonderful evening of live music. 

The band from Kuala Lumpur had already headlined their own show in the Guinness Amplify Live Tour, and their unique stage presence and vibrancy thrilled the crowd once more as they blasted out some of their biggest hits including fan favourites ‘If I Don’t Stay’ and ‘Overrated Understatement’.

Next up was musical maestro OJ Law, who treated the audience to the unique stylings of his 'Banana Indie Soulrocktronica'. OJ Law's dedication to his craft shone through during his performance with an impressive and technically proficient set featuring crowd-pleasing current hit 'Tongue Tied' in the finale show.

The moment I have been waiting for - performance from MAGIC!, the final act of the night. The Nu Reggae band from Toronto later took the stage to the screams of thousands of music fans eager to catch the band in their first ever performance in Malaysia, and wowed the crowd with a performance worthy of the band’s name.

My dream came true when I had the opportunity to hear their live performance. It was amazing!

MAGIC! took the crowd on a journey through their new album, ‘Don’t Kill the Magic’ to the smash-hit debut single ‘Rude’, which has taken the world by storm, earning the number 1 spot in the US and UK singles charts and going multi-platinum along the way. I even took a short video of the debut single 'Rude'.

Last but not least, an ootd of yours truly. I tried to look a bit hipster that night by pairing up my chiffon top with my denim shorts, a pair of high-rise sneakers and a sling leather bag for the party. Normally I don't curl up my hair for any occasions but this time I tried to curl my hair to change my usual look. What do you think of this look? Toshiba Smart Future Convention 2014 ❤

Last week, Toshiba had their Toshiba Convention 2014 at Genting International Conventional Centre with their theme "Smart Technology Smart Future" to showcase its latest line-up of Audio-Visual products and Home Appliances.

With this theme, it reflects on the vision of offering consumers a whole range of modern and exciting products that make a home, truly a home. A home is a place where I will look forward to come home everyday with all the modern conveniences that most of us desire. (:

What caught my attention the most in the Toshiba Convention was the Toshiba Pro Theatre L9450 Ultra HD 4K with Android series from Audio-Visual section. I never know it can be so fun looking around at the electrical appliances in a convention. *wide grin* The Toshiba's new multi-door G-series refrigerator looked absolutely classy with well-organised design. It has a unique middle-positioned vegetable compartment for easy retrieval and storage of large and heavy fruits and vegetables . The freshness of food is preserved through a Twin Cooling System that features stable temperature control, lower temperature setting and higher humidity in the refrigerator compartment.
